So it’s about that time of the year where I feel the need to freshen things up a little and launch a new project…
The Rockstar Foundation is a non-profit organization which will be funding the education of disadvantaged girls in South Africa. We intend on using social media to run the foundation and hope that our transparency and cool ideas will spark some interest among you all.
As I have no experience whatsoever with non-profit organizations, I’d really appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
Hey Adii,
Great idea, good to see you giving back. I just got a question; why girls? Nothing against that, just want to know your motivation!
Cheesr
Amazing! Like, good amazing.
Not many people would do that, be proud.
Gavin
Awesome to see someone giving back and not just using social media to extend their brand (although that’s a happy bonus to feel good foundation like this). I’m sure you’ll get loads of support from everybody online, but if you need legwork done, please feel free to ask. I’m sure there are loads of us peeps online who would be honoured to offer free help in any way. I’m one of them if you need
Best of luck, hope you bring loads of positive change to many lucky girls lives.
Excellent idea, it’s great to see anyone giving back to others.
I purposely make sure a percentage of my work is social enterprise or for non-profit groups (for free), so if you ever need a developer, social media advice/involvement or anything else to help you in your foundation – let me know.
Can’t wait to see what comes out of this.
This is a good idea Adii, well done!
Brilliant! I love this idea (especially with the focus on girls as I am biased) and would really love to be involved somehow…anyhow really. Looking forward to finding out more and supporting this in any way I can.
Bravo!
Sounds great! Looking forward to see how you put your spin on this… Warm-Fuzzies are always good
Better to give than to receive!
This is a really great idea.
I love South Africa and I think you are absolutely correct in targeting girls.
So many have to look after their siblings because their parents have died from HIV Aids; many are infected due to archaic tribal beliefs that if a man infected with HIV sleeps with a pre-pubescent girl, it will rid him of his infection.
Many are enied the opportunity of any education beyond the basic. Yet if SA is to have any future, I strongly believe that their women ahve to be heard; the two main tribes have suppressed them for too long.
Any help you need, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me – I have some good progressive contacts in SA.
Good luck!
hey adii, congrats. this is awesome. you might want to touch base with heartglobal.org. email me and I’ll intro you. they’ve got loads of experience.
Awesome idea Adii, look forward to assisting in some way. You may want to take a look at greatergoodsa.co.za as they already have loads of NGO’s many of whom might point you in a good direction in terms of which areas of development need focus.
It may even be better to push efforts in the direction of existing NGO’s and act as a hype/fund generator so you don’t duplicate efforts but assist in the area of publicity where they are sorely lacking in most cases.
Let us know what you need for this new venture!
Hi Adii, we run 6 schools in Zambia, it is the most rewarding work you can do which does make a difference. In real terms it only costs a few dollars per month to educate and provide health care and a meal a day to a child in Africa. If you need any advice let me know.

Adii, I also forgot to add earlier I have some good contacts in Sth Africa who could offer you advice on how to proceed from having the idea to putting it into action.
I’m looking forward to visiting Sth Africa next year on my way to Zambia. Education makes a huge difference to empowering a life!
Women are primary educators. Girls, especially disadvantaged girls, tend to be left with the responsibility of raising their siblings and will most likely become a mother at some point. Uneducated and ignorant mothers, result in an uneducated and ignorant society. I’m very excited to see where this leads
Giving back (be it time, money, ideas) is what keeps us as human beings grounded. Better Education = Better Knowledge = Better Decision Making Abilities = a Better Future. It is undeniable that gender equality issues are still very prevalent in especially the rural and less fortunate communities. Raising strong, intellectual and self confident young women is the foundation to having a succesful and balanced generation with a bright future. I can’t wait for the Rockstar Foundation to get up and running! It’s an amazingly unselfish idea and I feel honoured to be a part of this.
What a fantastic move. Good to see you’re pushing yourself into something you’ve had no experience with too. If there’s anything I could do to help you know where I am
All the best.
Great idea!
Congratulations and i wish you all success to your new non-profit organization.
Greetings from Brazil
Adii,
We should definitely connect because my wife and I have our own Canadian Charity called World Teacher Aid (www.worldteacheraid.org).
Basically we fund the full-time salary of teachers in rural third world communities throughout Africa (primarily Kenya, Uganda and Ghana).
Perhaps there is a way we can work together in South Africa?
Let me know what you think.
Take care.
Stu
Girls are generally more mature at an earlier age. So to make the move to a new environment is gonna take a tough character who can persevere.
It’s great that the focus of this foundation will be on the education of girls. In developing countries such as South Africa investment on the education of girls will economically empower them and contribute not only to their human rights and gender equality, but also to the development of our country as a whole. An economically empowered and educated girl can better take care of herself by articulating and demanding the enhancement of her rights and she can also contribute to her community and country as the potential mother of our future sons and daughters.
Thanks for the backing Matt. Once everything is up and running, we’ll try make it as easy as possible for others to contribute their money, time & ideas to the Foundation!
I’m with Matt’s last comment, Adii. My background is public relations and business law, so I’d be happy to help out drafting/editing press releases or other media relations stuff – when you get there of course
This is inspirational stuff – I think you’re one of the few that make the rest of us think a little deeper about how were actually changing the world, not just making its websites prettier.
That’s awesome. I’ll bookmark this and take you up on this, as soon as things are up-and-running! Thanks for the support!
Totally! I really believe that a proper education is the only way that one learns how to challenge beliefs; especially those beliefs that have been passed down from one generation to the next. So that’s where my heart is in terms of The Rockstar Foundation.
And I’ll definitely take you up on tapping into that resource / contact pool of yours!
I’d be lying if I said that @wellmaiden didn’t have anything to do with my reason for focusing the foundation on girls…
I think it is pretty obvious from her comment above that she’s extremely knowledgeable in this field and she’s definitely influenced my thinking in this regard.
We’d also love for you to get involved. We still need to figure things out before we launch, but we’re glad to know we can count on your support!
I may just take you up on that favour… Great developers like yourself are hard to find, so will definitely keep you in mind. Thanks so much for the offer!
Awesome stuff! It’s so amazing to see such a diverse group of people with divers skills-sets willing to contribute to the foundation. It is my hope that the foundation can call on all these contributions in an effort of really making a significant impact in the lives of these girls.
As for making you think… I’m glad that is the case. For me, this is a massive compliment in terms of what I’m doing and the content I’m publishing. If I can at least prompt people to challenge their own views on a topic, it’s mission accomplished for me!
Anything for a good non-profit that truly makes a difference
